They were amazing-- crispy on the outside, soft in the center. How much easier for clean up can you get. I was so excited when I received it that I had a breakfast party and made around 3 dozen buckwheat waffles. So, I asked for it for Christmas. This is the way I see it. But heck, if that is a few years from now, then I can just buy the new and improved version of this one. Praise the Lord. The plates can go in the dishwasher.
This is not really a "problem" at this time because all the waffles have turned out great. After using it another time, I realized that cooking spray does not work well on it (it burns), but a little oil (rubbed on with a folded paper towel--before turning the appliance on of course) seems to work fine. No waffle maker is perfect (or any appliance for that matter), but after researching waffle makers and reading every review I could possibly read, it seemed this one was the closest to being perfect as far as customer satisfaction. The only thing mildly negative about it was the fact that the front of the plates do not come together as much as the back, so the waffles do cook a little quicker in the back. To top it off, it really was fun to use. One reviewer said she scrubbed to get the plates clean, but that doesn't seem possible. If this minor issues worsens, maybe it will bother me. For now, I couldn't be happier.
The waffles don't stick at all and we like the temperature adjustment. I got this for my husband for Christmas. It is well made and works very well. We would have given it 5 stars if there were a timer or light to let you know when the waffle is done. You have to use an external timer with this one.
To begin with the temperature control knob is a bit sticky and does not move fluidly, I have doubts that the knob switch itself even works as there appears to be only two functions - off and scorched earth. So where's the advantage over non-removable plates other than you don't soak the whole waffle maker. My last ditch effort was a two fold approach, borrow a friend's unit while loaning him this unit - essentially a swap for a day - to see if there some mistake I was unknowingly making. I followed the directions specifically, then tryed some improvisation to make a waffle come out properly. The overall design appears well thought out, but functionally the unit is a major disappointment. I had very high expectations for this Belgian waffle maker. Unfortunately we had to swap back and I now have a $99 door stop. Nothing works and you end up having to clean by soaking and scrubbing with a non-abrasive sponge. I've trayed spray-on oils, coating with cooking oils, even soaking in cooking oils.
I had no issues making waffles with my friend's budget waffle maker, and my friend could not make a waffle with this unit either and I consider him a very fine cook. Next, the waffle plates do fit nicely in the unit and have a nice secure feel. After 10 months of ownership I have completely given up. My preference is not to issue criticism of a product, rather to try to figure how to make it work. (note I have had bad experiences with Krups switches previously (coffee maker and toaster oven - though I must admit the coffee makers (units 1, 2, and now unit 3) make fine coffee, and we use the toaster oven every single day)) I tried packaged Belgian waffle mix and also a number of scratch recipes, all failed to work in this waffle maker - again I believe it is the switch. My issue with the plates is they are about as nonstick as duct tape. As a Krups fanatic, he also is majorly disappointed. Buyer beware.
The rotary system insures that the waffles turn out nice and crisp on both sides. I researched waffle makers online before choosing this one. The plates and drip pan are machine washable so it's easy to clean. The waffles are wonderful and breakfasts with waffles have become a Sunday morning ritual. I would highly recommend purchasing The Krups Rotary waffle maker.
Easy to use and so easy to clean. I did some research on waffle makers and this model Krups received an abundance of great reviews. I now know why. I like my waffles crispy, almost to the burnt side and the Krups makes waffles just the away I like them. I would recommend the Krups to everyone and I would confidently give it as a gift.Doug Armstrong
